In every page he was completely different, and it confused me. I felt the way Luca was written was terrible. Luca is made out to be handsome and clever, but he doesn't come across like this at all. I didn't get on with Luca, I didn't understand him at all! I didn't connect with the characters which is always tricky in historical fiction, but in this novel in particular. It was very factual and historical, and at times, extremely grotesque. I was expecting a big historical adventure mixed with fantasy, but it wasn't. In a sense, but I was also a little disappointed. The four young people encounter werewolves, alchemists, witches, and death-dancers as they head toward a real-life historical figure who holds the boundaries of Christendom and the secrets of the Order of the Dragon.'Ĭhangeling was a strange one for me – I thought I would like it, and I did As the nuns walk in their sleep and see strange visions, Isolde is accused of witchcraft-and Luca is sent to investigate her, but finds himself plotting her escape.ĭespite their vows, despite themselves, love grows between Luca and Isolde as they travel across Europe with their faithful companions, Freize and Ishraq.
